Study From the Epistle of apostle Paul to Titus,2
Today we study the first chapter of this pastoral letter of Paul to Titus and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In chapter one , Paul concentrates on how Titus chooses the elders to help him as a senior pastor of the church of Create and the characters of those elders. He then advises him of how to deal with the difficult stask in dealing with the unruly people whom he needs to rebuke them sharply to get them back to the sound faith.
Structure:
Verse 1:4: greeting
Verse 5:9: the qualified elders
Verse 10:16: the difficult task to deal with unruly.
Principle1 verse 1:13: ”—therefore rebuke them sharply that they may be sound in the faith..”
Lesson 1: it is not fun to “rebuke” someone sharply. Yet it is the obligation of the sincere pastor to do that, otherwise things would get out of control. If it has to be done it should be with love and sometimes “with tears.” The goal is clear which is to get him/her back to the sound faith.
Principle 2, verse 1:16: “-They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him.”
Lesson 2: the same biblical principles written by James 1:22. “Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” 23/2/2020.
