Study From the Book of Zephaniah, 3
Today, the first of October 2017, we study chapter two of this rich book of the Bible. In this chapter there are two main topics. From verse 1 to 3, prophet Zephaniah calls for repentance. The rest of the chapter describes the judgement of the nations. As mentioned before chapter one and two talk about grim picture of judgment of the nations, including Judah, because of their sins, if they do no not repent. The final chapter which we will study next week is a prophetic talking about God’s restoration and salvation for His people(the day time of the Day of The Lord after the rupture of the Church).
As usual we will pick up a couple of principles to look at, that can be applied in biblical counselling.
Principle 3 (verse 2:3): “Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, see humility.”
Lesson 3: A genuine heart for God always results in a genuine love for people, especially for the poor and oppressed. Seeking the Lord is meant seeking community justice along with personal righteousness.
Principle 4 (verse 2:11): “ The Lord will be awesome to them, for He will reduce to nothing all the gods of he earth; people shall worship Him, each one from his place, indeed all the shores of the nations.”
Lesson 4: The Lord wants the whole world to know Him and serve Him and worship Him and love Him. The gospel is for every kingdom, tribe, nation, and tongue on earth, and God commissions us to be His ambassadors (2Cor:5:20)
