Study From the Book of Zechariah, 9
In this part 9 of the series, we study chapter nine. As usual we are interested in biblical principles that can be applied in biblical counselling.
Chapter 9 deals with three main topics or issues:
Most of the prophesies concern the end of the age when the Lord Jesus will reign in the millennium, however there are lessons for us today that can be applied in counselling.
Principle 17, verse 9:9: “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you. He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey---“
Lesson 17: These prophesy happened exactly when the Lord Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday as recorded in Mathew 21:5. It will happen again in the future when the Lord enters the city as the King of kings and the Lord of lords when He starts His reign in the millennium. However it has its implication for us today. We serve a just, humble Savoir who does not wait for us to make our way to Him, but who willingly come to us. How could we not praise and worship and welcome Him such a glorious King? However, for those who reject Him today will face judgment by Him in the future.
Principle 18: verse 9:16: “The Lord their God will save them in that day, as the flock of His people.”
Lesson 18: Again this verse will happen in the future at the millennium. The Lord Jesus will save His covenant people of Israel after they repent from their great sin of rejecting the Saviour who came to their land but they rejected Him. However, it has its implication for us today. God is our Saviour; He is the good Shepherd who is ready and eager to rescue us from the various enemies and troubles that would otherwise overwhelm us. How can you trust your Shepherd today?
