Study From the Book of Zechariah,8
Today is the Christmas Eve, Merry Christmas, we study the 8th chapter of this rich book of the Scripture. Here the prophet Zechariah prophesied about the future of Jerusalem at the time of the millennium , when our Lord Jesus will reign (remind the readers that will be after the rupture of the Church, the great tribulation of 7 years and the judgement of the livings).
To confirm that, we read in verse 3, “Thus says the Lord: I will return to Zion, And dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the City of Truth, the Mountain of the Lord of hosts, the Holy Mountain.”
In those days we read about great things to happen. It is extremely difficult for us now to imagine, such as in verse 4 and 5 “Old men and old women shall again sit in the Streets of Jerusalem, Each one with his staff in his hand because of great age. The streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets.” There will be no fear, no violence but peace and blessing as in verse 13 and so forth.
However what is of interest for us now is to pick up a couple of biblical principles that can be applied in biblical counselling. Although what are mentioned in this chapter are the physical blessings that will happen to the remnant of the Jewish people in future, for now, we can enjoy the spiritual blessings of those verses.
Principle 15, verse 8:6: “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘If it is marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, will it also be marvellous in My eyes?’”
Lesson 15: What we call miracles, God calls just another day at the office. What looks impossible to us is very easy for the Lord. That is why we can trust Him no matter how difficult our situation may seem.
Principle 16, verse 8:9 – “Let your hands be strong, you who have been hearing in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets...”
Lesson 16: If you feel weak and need a shot of spiritual strength, determine right now to spend some extended time in the Scripture. God delights to give us strength through His Word-but we have to be taking it in.
