Study From the Book of Zechariah,6
In this part 6 of the study of the Book of Zechariah, we study chapter 5 and 6. As mentioned before, in the first 6 chapters, Zechariah saw 8 visions in one night. In chapter 5, he saw the sixth vision of the “Flying Scroll” and the 7th vision of the “Woman in a Basket.” However in the 6th chapter, here is the 8th and the final vision of the “Four Chariots.” Also as mentioned before, we are not concerned in their prophetic application although it is a great thing to do for biblical scholars and for those who study the Bible to know the prophetic dimensions of those visions, so we are more interested in picking up biblical principles that can be applied in biblical counselling in these two chapters.
However, from verse 9 to the end of the 6th chapter, the verses talk about the picture of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus in His second coming, when He reigns in the millennium. He will build the temple that will bear the glory of God. He shall sit and rule on His throne (verse 6:13).
Principle 9 (verse 6:12): “—Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall build the temple of the Lord.”
Lesson 9: in this context, here is a prophesy of the Messiah in His second coming who will build the temple in Jerusalem and will reign with justice and glory in the coming millennium after destroying His enemies and judging the livings. However, there is a current application for us now, for the believers, the temple is our bodies as in I Corinthians 3:16, the Apostle Paul says “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
Principle 10 (verse 6:15): “And this shall come to pass if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God.”
Lesson 10: this verse is also in the context of the future millennium; however, it has its implication for us today. Many of God’s promises in both Old and New Testaments are conditional. When we see the word “if,” understand that God is making His action contingent upon our obedience.
