Study From the Book of Zechariah, 4
In this forth part of the series, we study biblical principles that can be applied in biblical counselling in chapter three of this rich book of the Bible.
Two main topics are in this chapter. The first is the vision of the High Priest, Joshua, who was in dirty clothes. The accuser who is Satan accused the prophet of his sins in the past and because of that he was not worthy to stand to serve God. However, God rebuked Satan and clothed Joshua with rich and cleaned robe. It is the picture for us all now. Satan wants us to feel guilt about our past of sin that we committed at the time of our ignorance and he (Satan) wants to convince us that there is no way to come before the Holy God in such condition.
The other topic is regarding the coming Branch, the Lord Jesus who will reign in the millennium with all the justice and goodness during His rule.
Principle 5, verse : 3:1: “Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him.”
Lesson 5: The Bible calls Satan “the accuser of our brethren” as his job is to accuse the believers with their sins that they committed in the past. But thanks to God, who also have an advocate with the Father who defends us before God. We are clothed with Jesus righteousness and no longer with the dirty clothes of the past.
Principle 6, verse 3:4: “Take away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”
Lesson 6: connected with the above, the apostle Paul says, “Put off the old man with his deeds, and put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him (Col. 3:9.10). We must wear Jesus like a garment, and so we need to remind Satan with our new status in Christ.
