Study From the Book of Zechariah, 2
Today is the second part of the series “Study From the Book of Zechariah.” We study chapter one of the book and as usual we will pick up a couple of biblical principles that can be applied in biblical counselling.
In chapter one, the prophet encouraged the Jewish people to repent and to return to God. As mentioned in the introduction, in the first 8 chapters, he encouraged them to complete the task of building the temple. Chapter one contains also one vision of horses, but it is a prophet’s vision that would not be applied in biblical
counselling but it is good to read it, should the reader want to study the prophetic application of that vision.
Principle one (1:3) : “Return to Me, “Says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you...”
Lesson one: If we want peace with God, we must get on the same page with Him- and often that requires our repentance. The New Testament agrees: “Drew near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8).
Principle two (1:17)- “The Lord will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”
Lesson 2: God judges Israel, not to vent His anger, but to bring the hearts of His people back to Him. Brokenness is God’s requirement for maximum usefulness.
