Study From the First Epistle of Paul to Timothy, 6
Now while we are approaching the New Year, I wish all the readers a happy blessed year 2020. Today,we continue in the study of the first letter of Paul to Timothy and we study chapter 5.As usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.
In chapter 5, Paul gives invaluable advices to Timothy preparing him for the leadership of the church of Ephesians. In this chapter, he gives him advice regarding how to deal with church members of different ages, women particularly widows and finishes with the elders of the church.
The structure:
Verse 1 to 2: treatment of church members.
Verse 3:16: honour true widows
Verse 17:25: honour the elders
Principle 9, 5:8: “ But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of house- hold, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
Lesson 9: many unbelievers fall into gross sin because they do not know their obligation. Paul himself before his conversion fell into this category as we understand from I Tim.1:13. But for someone who knows this biblical principle and refuses to act on it has no excuse.
Principle 10: verse 5:24: “- Some men’s sins are clearly evident, preceding them to judgement, but those of some men follow later.”
Lesson 10: Some crimes escape the judgement of human beings, but no sin escapes the judgement of God. No one ultimately gets away with anything. If we do not allow Jesus to take away our sins, we will have to bear them ourselves. 29/12/2019
