Study From the Book of the Second Thessalonians,3
Today we continue in the series as we study chapter 2. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.
Here the apostle talks about the second coming of our Lord. By superficial reading of this chapter, one might suggest it will be one visit. However by careful examining of the text especially verse 3, we can conclude it will be twice. The Rupture (the day of Christ) will come first that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first. This is precisely what happens now where the Church abandon sound doctrine. Then the rest of the verse “the man of sin is revealed,” where Paul talks about the great tribulation which will occur after the Rupture in the middle of the 7 years. The judgement of the livings to be followed then the millennium of 1000 years when the Lord will reign after that.
However whether the readers view in either way, the apostle Paul encouraged the Thessalonians, (and us) to stand fast in their faith.
The structure of this chapter is as follows:
1. Verse 1 to 12: the great apostasy
2. Verse 13: 17: to stand fast on the sound doctrine
Principle 3 verse 2:3: “—Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first—“
Lesson 3: the time is coming when the majority of the church will abandon sound doctrine and will instead endorse whatever teaching seems popular at the moment. The way to combat such as error now is to stick to the Bible.
Principle 4: 2:17 : “—comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work.”
Lesson 4: God comfort us in our distress, not merely so that we can feel comfortable , but so that we will find the strength and engorgement to minster to others through “every good word and work.” 27/9/2019
