Study From the Second Peter,4
Today is the final part of this series where we study chapter 3. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In chapter three, the apostle Peter continues to talk about the false teachers who teach saying,” where is the promise of His coming.” Contrary to their teaching, the Lord will come suddenly without expectations. “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness. But is long-suffering toward us. Not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” Verse 9.
The apostle then talks about the day of God. According to this chapter and also o the book of Joel, there are three days(day here is a span of time that can be thousands of years also can be infinite): the day of the governments ,the present time, God is in control but we do not see Him. We see Him in Spirit as God is Spirit (John 4). Then the day of Christ is started by the rupture of the Church then night time the tribulation and the great tribulation and day time when the Lord Jesus physically reigns for 1000 years. The last day is the day of God which the apostle talks about it here, where all things will melt away and there will be a new earth and a new heaven where the righteous dwell forever and ever with God. So we should live steadfast waiting for that day.
Structure:
Verses 1-9: God’s promise is not slack
Verses 10-13: the day of the Lord
Verses 14-18: be steadfast
Principle 5 verse 3:8: “- But beloved, do not forget this thing that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day .”
Lesson 5: God simply does not run this world by our timetable. What feels like a delay to us is right on schedule by His calendar. He often makes us wait , not to frustrate us, but to deepen our trust in Him,
Principle 6: verse 3:12 : “-looking for and hastening the coming the day of God---.”
Lesson 6: This is a prophesy should come to pass. Knowing what lies ahead should move us to please God before whom we will soon stand for rewards. 17/1/2021
