             Study From the Second Peter.3

Today is the third part of this series where we study chapter two. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

In chapter two, the Apostle Peter warns against the false teachers among the believers who wide spread false doctrines. They exploit the believers with deceptive words.

God is just who judged the fallen angles in the past. He judges the ungodly people. He then gives examples from the Old Testament about godly people who spared the wrath of God. Noah who was saved among eight people, a preacher of righteousness bringing in the flood on the world of ungodly.

God turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes and saved Lot who was opposed by the filthy conduct of the wicked. “then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgement.”

The rest of this chapter, the apostle talks about the depravity and the deception of false teachers and their doom fate. It is better for them not to have known the any of righteousness, than having known it.   

Structure:

Verses 1-3: destructive doctrines

Verses 4-11: doom of false teachers

Verses 12-17: depravity of false teachers

Verses 18-22: deceptions of false teachers.

Principle 3 verse 2:1: “ -But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you , who will secretly bring in destructive heresies.”

Lesson 3: the best way to recognise the false doctrine is to become thoroughly familiar with the truth. Someone who has been trained to know the truth from the Scripture will not easily be led astray by false teaching.

Principle 4: verse 2:19: “- while they promise them liberty, they themselves are salves of corruption; by whom a person is overcome by him also is brought to bondage.”

Lesson 4 : people who encourage us to join them in their sin are like junkies who encourage people to join them in their drug habit. They promise a good time and a real high, but in fact they are trapped in a destructive life style. 10/1/2021
