Study From the Book of the Second John,1
Today is the first part of this series as we start with introduction.
The early church had faced false doctrine that prompted the apostle John to write this epistle. This false teaching or heresy, called Docetism, was teaching that Christ did not actually come in the flesh. In other words, Christ did not have a body but only seemed to have a body and to suffer and die on the Cross. Yet these false teachers who taught this doctrine claimed to be Christians, teaching the truth of Jesus life and death.
John would have none of it as he urged the believers to cling to the truth that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. So, the word truth appears five times in the first four verses. John wrote this letter to the elect lady and her children although some scholars argue that it is to the Church in general symbolised by the elect lady but there is no convincing evidence suggests that.
