Study From the Book of the Second Corinthians,1
Today we study another epistle of Apostle Paul and before we go through some biblical principles and lessons from each chapter, we first, as usual, go through the introduction.
After he wrote his first letter, that we have already finished, he rejoiced with the coming of Titus who informed him that the majority of the church there, have repented, but there is minority who doubted his apostle authority and described him as unimpressive, proud and dishonest. So Paul defended his apostolic authority and gave them some fascinating personal details.
There are topics which characterised this epistle for example: his mysterious visit to the third heaven and his “thorn in the flesh” in chapter 12. Also chapter 8 and 9 are devoted to the blessings of giving. Our example is the Lord Jesus Himself who gave Himself to save us on the Cross.
Theme: primarily a defence and vindication of Paul’s apostolic ministry.
Author: the apostle Paul
Date: shortly after the first letter , around A.D.53-55
Structure:
1. Chapters 1:7: Paul explains why he changed the timing of his third visit to Corinth.
2. Chapter 8-9: he asked the church to prepare for his arrival.
3. Chapter 9-13: he defends his apostolic authority and warns that he will use it to discipline the church if necessary. 2/12/2018
