Study From The Book of the Philippians, 4
Today is the fourth part of this series, “Study From the Book of the Philippians,” where we study chapter 3 and as usual we pick up a couple of verses and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling. Remind our readers, these principles and lessons can be applied either as self-help or in counselling others.
In chapter three, the apostle Paul reminds the readers of what he told them before which is "rejoice in the Lord always and again, I say rejoice." He then reminds himself ,and us as well, of his goal, to forget the past and press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (verse 14). He ends up by saying that our citizenship is in heaven and we must live according to this call.
The structure of this chapter is as follows:
Principle 5, verse 3:1 “... finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.”
Lesson 5: because we so easily forget the lessons we have learned, the Bible often presents the same teaching in various forms. The apostle Peter wrote, “I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know” them (2 Peter 1:12).
Principle 6, verse 3:13: “..Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.”
Lesson 6: No matter what had happened in the past ,either good or bad, the apostle Paul never settled for the past. We ,too, must “press on” with the mindset that there is always something more to be found in Christ. 7/7/2019
