Study From the Book of Nahum,4
Today we continue on studying this rich book of the Bible where the prophet Nahum prophesied about the destruction of Nineveh, the capital city of the Assyrians because of their sins and cruelty over the nations that they occupied that included the Northern Kingdom of Israel.
Today we study chapter three, the last chapter of the book which declare the Assyrians’ complete ruin. As usual, we pick up a couple of biblical principles that can be applied in biblical counselling.
Principle 5 (3:14): “Draw your water for the siege! Fortify your strongholds! Go into the clay and tread the mortar! Make strong the brick kiln!”
Lesson 5: The Assyrians have reached a point of no return. They were warned by Jonah a 100 years before and they repented. A hundred years later, they return to their sins without repentance. God does not plead with rebels to repent. The time comes when they reach a point of no return. Pharaoh did this in Exodus 9:12. Assyria did that, in this chapter. And some still do it (1John 5:16). But you do not have to.
Principle 6 (3:19): “---Your injury has no healing, your wound is severe.”
Lesson 6: No one wants to hear this, especially if that concerns his/her eternal life. In biblical counselling those who refuse to return to God for spiritual healing never be healed. Our spiritual cure is from God only. Those who seek another route, are after poison not medicine.
