Study From the Book of Nahum,3
Today,we continue in studying this rich book of the Bible that talks about the judgment of the empire of Assyrians with its capital Nineveh, because of its cruelty and injustice against the Northern Kingdom of Israel also because they worshipped other gods.
Chapter one talks about the sovereign God as a judge. He allowed the Assyrians to punish the children of God of Israel, because of their sins, then came their turn to be punished. However because of their continuous sins with no repentance (remember they repented a hundred years before by the preaching of Jonah, but not this time), so it should be no repair and the whole empire will be vanished forever as will see in chapter 3 next week.
Today we study chapter 2 to pick up a couple of biblical principles that can be applied in biblical counselling. This chapter talks about the methods which God applied for His verdict. . Remember that, the book was a prophecy of Nahum that had to come to pass and Nineveh been destroyed by water as we see in verse 8 of this chapter ,many years after the book of Nahum was written by the prophet.
Principle 3 (2:2): “For the Lord will restore the excellence of Jacob like the excellence of Israel-----.”
Lesson 3: Even in the chapter of judgment of Assyrians, God does not forget His children should they repent. He will bless them similar when He blessed Jacob and changed His name to Israel.
Principle 4 (2:13): “Behold I am against you , “says the Lord of hosts----“
Lesson 4: You never want to hear God say to you, “I am against you.” What God opposes ends in misery and destruction; what God supports ends in joy and blessings. Remember, obedience always brings blessings.
