Study From the Book of Lamentations,5
Today is to study the final chapter of the Book of Lamentations, chapter 5. We pick up two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in Biblical Counselling.
The promised land had been a gift from the Lord to Abraham. The inheritance was a kind of “down payment” on the future reign of God that would include the restoration of His people to that land. God demonstrated that He owned all nations and that Israel was to be His instrument for blessings all the nations on the earth. Yet in their present condition, the people of Isreal seemed to be the most helpless of all people.
However, Jeremiah concluded his book of Lamentations by saying: “unless You have utterly rejected us.” What is stated is completely out of question. The Lord cannot reject His own people for ever.
Structure:
Verses 1-22: a prayer for restoration.
Principle 8, verse 5: 7: ---“Our fathers sinned and are no more, but we bear their inequities.”
Lesson 8: God does not punish the son for the sins of his father, and yet the father may, through his sin inflict a great deal of suffering on his innocent son. Sin has a way of multiplying consequences.
Principle 9 verse 5:19: ---“You, O Lord, remain forever; Your throne from generation to generation.”
Lesson 9: We live in a time of enormous and rapid change- and yet God remains exactly the same today as He was in the days of Jeremiah. The changes do not surprise Him, nor do they impress Him. Praise Him today! 19/1/2025.
