Study From the Book of Jude,2
Today is the second part of this series where we study the sole chapter of this book. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
This only chapter of apostle Jude, after the greetings, he urges the readers to be vigilant in their faith and he warns them against the ungodly men ,who crept the church, who turn the grace of God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus.
He then reminds the readers of the old apostates like the lost angles at the time of Noah. Sodom and Gomorrah, and the devil who objected the hiding of the body of Moses after he died. Then he talks about the current apostates who are walking according to their own lusts and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.
He then ends his letter to urge them to maintain their life with God.
Structure:
Verses 1-2: greetings
Verses 3-4: content for the faith
Verses 5-11: old and new apostles
Verses 12-15: apostates depraved
Verses 16-19: apostates predicted
Verses 20-23: maintain life with God
Verses 24-25: Glory to God
Principle 1, verse 3: “content earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints,”
Lesson 1: the gospel of Jesus Christ does not change. Since He is the same yesterday, today and forever. So the gospel remains eternally the same. And it is worth fighting for. Since through it alone we find eternal life.
Principle 2: verse 24: “- Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.”
Lesson 2: while God asks us to cooperate with Him in the process of sanctification, it is He who conforms us to the image of Jesus by His power and infinite wisdom. That is why we can joyfully anticipate our total transformation.
