Study From the Book of Jeremiah,9
.
Today is the ninth part of this series, where we are studying chapter 9. Here we pick up one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in biblical counselling.
Jeremiah desired a wilderness refuge where he would be free from the agony, sorrow, bitterness and degradation of Jerusalem. The personal affairs of the people were characterized by deceit, slander, and mistrust. As Jacob deceived his brother Esau, so the people of Judah defrauded their brethren. The essence of Judah’s problem was its lack of God’s knowledge. Instead of walking according to God’s law, the people walked according to their own hearts.
The people should find the real meaning and true worth in the fact that they know God and may celebrate His attributes. True knowledge of God resulting from an intimate relationship with Him will be demonstrated in a person’s character. Three attributes of God that He demands of people called by His Name are loyal love, justice, and uprightness.
Structure:
Verses 1-16: the prophet continues to mourn for the people.
Verses 17-26: the people mourn in judgement.
Principle 17, verse 23,24: --"Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands Me----”
Lesson 17: Intelligence, power, and riches all give human beings the illusion of being under control-but the illusion always come to an end. When we put our confidence in God alone, however, we find something worth our boasting. 21/1/2024
