Study From the Book of Jeremiah,7

Today is the seventh part of this series, where we are studying chapter 7 and as usual, we pick up two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in biblical counselling.

The word that came to Jeremiah in His temple courts call the people to repentance which means return from sins and complete transformation of their lifestyle and beliefs as they belief that the temple of God has become a guaranteed for security not for obeying the provisions of the covenant.

This covenant has been violated by the inhabitants of Jerusalem in context of worshipping deities other than God. Entering the temple of God  in such a manner while worshiping other gods was incomprehensible. Furthermore, for the people to think that they were secure enough to perform perverted abominations was the ultimate hypocrisy.

Like robbers hiding in a cave for safety, Judah attempted to hide behind the sanctuary of the temple for protection from the divine hand of judgement.

Structure:

Verses 1-27: trusting in lying words.

Verses 28-34: judgement on obscene religion.

Principle 13, verse 7:12:   --"But go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I set My name at the first, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.”

Lesson 13:  God has no nostalgic ties to shrines or holy places or houses of worship. We never safe merely because we live near or around a sacred place. God wants clean hearts, not impressive grounds.

Principle 14, verse 7:23: ----- “Obey My voice , and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.”

Lesson 14:  God desires prosperity for us. He wants us to be a whole person,fruitful and fulfilling His purpose for our lives. So ask ourselves: what do we desire? How are we acting on it?    7/1/2024.
