Study From the Book of Jeremiah,51

Study From the Book of Jeremiah, 51

Today is the fifty first part of this series where we study chapter 51 of the book of Jeremiah. Here there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in Biblical Counselling.

Though Israel and Judah had forsaken the lordship of God, He had not forsaken His sinful people. The imagery of Babylon’s cup is reversed. Here Babylon’s cup is broken by the Lord and decadent Babylon was beyond healing and had to be abandoned. The destruction of Babylon was the vindication of the justice of God.  Jeremiah’s prediction would be realized: Israel would be made righteous through God’s work.

The Lord would avenge Babylon’s fierce abuse of Israel and other nations. Babylon had been God’s battle-ax for judgement against the nations, and Judah in particular. Babylon would experience God’s battle-ax of punishment for the evil it inflicted on Jerusalem and the seemingly invincible mountain of Babylon would be crumbled by the power of God’s outstretched arm. Cyrus entered Babylon without a battle. By time Cyrus reached Babylon, he had conquered all of Babylonia except for the capital city, cutting off roads and supply routes.

Structure

Verses 1-64: the utter destruction of Babylon.

Principle 76, verse 51:5.” For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, by his God, the Lord of hosts, though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel.”

Lesson 76: Jeremiah knew that while God would certainly judge His people for their sin, He would never completely abandon them. He had promised Abraham that He would be with them forever, and He always keeps His promises. 1/12/2024.
