Today is the fiftieth part of this series where we study chapter 50 of the book of Jeremiah. Here there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in Biblical Counselling.

Babylonians were vassals of Assyria until the revolt of Nabopolassar, who gained control of Babylon in 626 B.C. Nebuchadnezzar his son, who succeeded his father to the throne in 605 B.C., was the strongest and the longest-reigning. After his death the nation declined steadily. In 539 B.C. it was conquered by Cyrus, with little effort.

Israel and Judah would be restored as they sought the Lord in mournful repentance. Looked for help to return home, the train of thought turns to the Jews who should flee from Babylon like rams of a flock.

Babylon’s plunder would be its punishment for gloating over Judah’s demise and the abuse of God’s heritage. Great Babylon would be reduced to the least of the nations. Defamation, draught, dishabituation, desolation, and derision were Babylon’s destiny.

The Lord had used Babylon to punish Assyria for deporting Israel; He would use another foe from the north to inflict punishment on Babylon. And God, the Redeemer of Israel, offered to obtain the legal freedom of His people from captivity.

Structure

Verses 1-46: judgement on Babylon and Babylonia.

Principle 75, verse 50:34” their Redeemer is strong; the Lord of hosts is His name. He will thoroughly plead their case, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.”

Lesson 75: As Job cried out in Job 19:25 “For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth.” So as the Redeemer of Israel and Judah stood for the His people in the past, He is now stands for the believers who face persecution and affliction. 24/11/2024.
