Study From the Book of Jeramiah, 48

Today is the 48th part of this series where we study chapter 48 of the book of Jeremiah. Here there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in Biblical Counselling.

As the apostate people of Judah trusted on the queen of heaven, Moab trusted in its patron deity Chemosh, a god of fertility and storm. Taking a deity captive was a well-known Middle Eastern custom. The national statue of the patron deity was seized and it was believed that the captured god could no longer protect its people.

Though Moab was subject to Isreal in the ninth century B.C, it had never experience exile and became complacent in its security. However, God would empty Moab’s vessels, causing the Moabites to be taken captive. And Moab’s cities would be destroyed. The great protector of Moab, Chemosh, would become powerless before God, as Bethel fell with Israel (Amos 3:14).

Jeremiah assured Moab that there is but one true King, Whose name is the Lord of hosts, the all-powerful “God of armies.” The haughty Moab was ashamed by the destruction of its mighty fortresses.

Structure

Verses 1-47: judgement on Moab.

Principle 73, verse 48: 42-….” And Moab shall be destroyed as a people because he exalted himself against the Lord.”

Lesson 73:  God always judges pride. Always. Whether He finds the arrogance and pride in the heart of an angel (Satan), a man (Nebuchadnezzar), or a nation (Moab). He will always judge it. He has no rivals.3/11/2024.
