Study From the Book of Jeremiah,41

Study From the Book of Jeremiah, 41

Today is the 41st part of this series where we study chapter 41 of the book of Jeremiah. Here there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in Biblical Counselling.

Ismail’s act of murdering Gedaliah was especially despicable since it took place during a banquet. Two days after Gedaliah’s death, a group of faithful pilgrims were on their way to Jerusalem, probably with grain rather than animal offerings. Ismail and his followers falsely led the worshippers aside, massacred them, and cast their bodies into pits.

When Johanan, who had warned Gedaliah about the assassination plot, heard of the of the atrocities of Ismail, he mastered his captains and forces and confronted the rebel army at Gibeon. The Pool was the site of famous battle between Joab and Abner’s men as in 2 Sam.2:12-29.

When they saw Johanan, Ismail ran over to join his forces and escaped to Ammon. Fearing imminent reprisal from the Babylonians on account of the rebellion, Johanan gathered the inhabitants of Mizpah, including Jeremiah, and began a trek towards Egypt seeking a place of safety.

Structure:

Verses 1-18: insurrection against Gedaliah

Principle 64: verse 41:15: --“But Ismail the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men and went to the Ammonites. “

Lesson 64: In Hollywood, the bad guy usually gets it in the end. But the Bible is realistic; it admits that life doesn’t always happen that way--- at least, on this side of heaven. But no one escapes the final judgement. 15/9/2024.
