Study From the Book of Jeremiah,40

Study From the Book of Jeramiah, 40

Today is the 40th part of this series where we study chapter 40 of this book of Jeremiah. Here there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in Biblical Counselling.

With the destruction of Jerusalem still in process, Ramah served as a way station for captives going to Babylon. Jeremiah was released from bondage and given three choices: 1-to go with Nebuzaradan (the captain of the guard) to Babylon and enjoy special treatment. 2-to remain in the care of Gedaliah the district governor at Mizpah. 3- to live in the land as he chose.  Jeremiah was given gifts and rations.

Jeremiah chose to go to Mizpah to sever under Gedaliah staying with his people not far from his hometown and the property he purchased while in the court of the prison.  Mizpah was about eight miles north of Jerusalem. Among the list of escaped leaders was Ismael. They returned home and began working the fields, vineyards, and orchards.

Johanan led a group of leaders to Gedaliah to warn him of a plot by Ishmael to assassinate the governor. Unfortunately, Gedaliah was far too trusting Ismael, who seems to have coveted Gedaliah’s position.

Structure:

Verses 1-16: Jeremiah with Gedaliah, the Governor.

Principle 63: verse 40:2,3 --“the Lord your God has pronounced this doom on this land---"

Lesson 63: Sometimes God gives words to a pagan man. This Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, told Jeremiah the real reason of the fall of Jerusalem.  He told him it was because the sin of the people not the power of Nebuchadnezzar that led to its fall.  8/9/2024.
