Study From the Book of Jeremiah,4
Today is the fourth part of this series, where we are studying chapter 4 and as usual, we pick up two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in biblical counselling.
Jeremiah’s stern warning of judgement is given with the picture of unquenchable fire. If the people of Judah did not repent of evil, destruction would come.
Jeremiah announced the judgement of Judah and Jerusalem with the alarming sound of a trumpet. This was the instrument used to sound the alarm when an enemy attacked a city.
The destruction would come as a terrible surprise like a lion pouncing suddenly upon its prey. The desolation of the land and the deportation of the people would be the result. It is the result of its unfaithfulness. Yet the land would not see total destruction. A slim ray of future hope till existed. God remembers His mercy in His wrath.
Structure:
Verses 1-4: return to Me, says the Lord.
Verses 5-18: an imminent invasion.
Verses 19-31: sorrow for the doomed nation.
Principle 7, verse 4:14 “--- wash your heart from wickedness, that you may be saved. How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you"
Lesson 7: God saves us not merely to enable us to escape the punishment our sins deserve, but to free us from the power of sin.
Principle 8, verse 4:22: --“--- My people are foolish, they have not known Me. They are silly children, and they have no understanding. They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.”
Lesson 8: To know God is to know righteousness. To love God is to love righteousness. To serve God is to serve righteously.17/12/2023.
