Study From the Book of Jeramiah, 39
Today is the 39th part of this series where we study chapter 39 of this book of Jeremiah. Here there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in Biblical Counselling.
The walls of Jerusalem breached about the time food supplies were exhausted in June or July 586 B.C. When Zedekiah saw the Babylonians enter the gate on the north side of Jerusalem, he and his men left at night. However, they were captured and Zedekiah met Nebuchadnezzar face to face as Jeremiah prophesied. Zedekiah’s sons were killed before his eyes just before he was blinded and was taken to Babylon where he died. The princes also were killed.
Typically, the Babylonians deported the upper classes to Babylon and left behind peasant to work the field. During the destruction of Jerusalem, Jeremiah was realised from the court of prison. Ebed-Melech who had carefully rescued Jeremiah from the muddy cistern in the prison court was promised safety and deliverance by the Lord because of his assistance to Jeremiah and because he trusted God.
Structure:
Verses 1-10: the fall of Jerusalem.
Verses 11-18: Jeremiah goes free.
Principle 62: verse 39:18: --“For I will surely deliver you, and you shall not fall by the sword; but your life shall be as a prize to you, because you have put your trust in Me,” says the Lord.
Lesson 62: Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian had no way of knowing that when he helped Jeremiah, he was actually helping himself. He displayed his genuine faith by risking his life for the prophet, and God gave him his life as a reward. 1/9/2024.
