Study From the Book of Jeremiah,36

Study From the Book of Jeremiah,36

Today is the thirty-sixth   part of this series where we study chapter 36. Here, there are two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in biblical counselling.

The Lord asked Jeremiah to write a scroll that contained the impeding destruction of Jerusalem because of their sins, unless they repent. Baruch the son of Neriah was a trained scribe and close friend of Jeremiah. So, upon Jeremiah instruction he wrote the scroll.

The scroll was read in the temple with the attendance of the princes. Alarmed at the words of the scroll, the princes felt impelled to inform the king. The leaders told Baruch to go with Jeremiah and hide until the matter could be investigated. Baruch and Jeremiah would have learned later that the original scroll was destroyed. since they were in hiding when it happened.

The Lord told Jeremiah to prepare a second scroll with additional material included. The indictment and judgement against Jehoiakim were pronounced because he destroyed the scroll of the word of the Lord. As the king had cast the scroll into the fire, so his body would be cast from the palace. The royal household would experience the destructive judgement that had been proclaimed in the words of the original scroll and the Davidic linage would not continue through the king’s son who would rule for only three months before Nebuchadnezzar deported Jehoiachin to Babylon where he died.

Structure:

Verses 1-10: the scroll read in the temple.

Verses 11-19: the scroll read in the palace

Verses 20-26: the king destroys Jeremiah’s scroll

Verses 27-32: Jeremiah rewrites the scroll.

Principle 57:36:7: --” It may be that they will present their supplication before the Lord, and everyone will turn from his evil way.”

Lesson 57:   Since we never know when someone has crossed the point of no return, we should always urge men and women to repent and return to the Lord so that He might forgive their sins.

Principle 58, 36:24: ----Yet they were not afraid, nor did they tear their garments, the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words.”

Lesson 58: until God actually comes in judgment, it is possible to mock His word and reticulate His servants, right up until the floodwaters arrive. It is possible to doubt His existence…until one’s own comes into question.11/08/2024.
