Study From the Book of Jeremiah,29
Today is the twenty-ninth part of this series where we study chapter 29. Here, there are two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in biblical counselling.
Jeremiah, in his letter to the captives in Babylon, reminded the exile community that ultimately it was God not Nebuchadnezzar, who had caused them to be carried away captive. Jeremiah proclaimed the period of seventy years of Babylonian exile (also in 25:12).
For the meantime, he counselled the people to settle in and carry on their normal activities. God would prosper them with children and with fertile crops. Jeremiah asked them to pray for the peace of Babylon and as the result they themselves would live in peace as beneficiaries of God’s gracious sovereignty over the nations.
Jeremiah issued another warning against the false prophets, (prophesied lies in the name of the Lord) who told the captives of the imminent collapse of Babylon and the restoration would be soon.
Structure:
Verses 1-32: Jeremiah’s letter to the captives.
Principle 46, verse 29:7: --"And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace, you will have peace.”
Lesson 46: God caused His rebellious people to be carried away by force to wicked Babylon, and yet He instructed them to pray for the peace of the pagan city. Even in Babylon, He wanted to bless His people.
Principle 47: verse 29:13---“And you seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
Lesson 47: Do we really want to know God’s will for our lives? Do we really want to learn His plans for us? God promises to reveal His will to everyone who will obey whatever He tells them to do. 23/6/2024.
