Study From the Book of Jeremiah,25
Today is the twenty-fifth part of this series where we study chapter 25. Here, there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in biblical counselling.
In 605 B.C., Nebuchadnezzar succeeded his father on the throne of Babylon. He quickly moved his army to Carchemish and then defeated the Egyptians and some Assyrians. The following year he gained controlled of all of Palestine, reaching southward to the Brook of Egypt.
Starting from time he was called in 626 B.C., Jeremiah faithfully proclaimed the word of God for 23 years. He was diligent and persistent.
Other prophets such as Habakkuk had persistently proclaimed the message of repentance so that the nation might remain in the land. Security, prosperity, and long life in the land were directly related to the nation’s covenant faithfulness to God. However, Judah preferred to worship the man-made idols used in pagan worship breaching the covenant, so provoked God to anger.
Structure:
Verses 1-14: seventy years of desolation.
Verses 15-38: judgement on the nations.
Principle 41, verse 25:11: --"And the whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.”
Lesson 41: Before enemy troops ever set foot in Jerusalem, Jeremiah predicted that Babylonian captivity would last seventy years. And exactly how long it lasted, no less, no more . You can always trust God’s Word! 18/5/2024.
