Study From the Book of Jeremiah,21
Today is the twenty first part of this series where we study chapter 21. Here, there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in biblical counselling.
God had delivered Jerusalem from destruction during the siege of Sennacherib of Assyria in 701 B.C. King Zedekiah was hoping for a similar divine deliverance. Jeremiah’s response to Zedekiah was that because the people of Judah had become God’s enemies because of their sins, God would fight against them. The divine instrument (outstretched hand and strong arm) by which Israel had gained freedom from Egypt and deliverance from enemies would be used against them.
Structure:
Verses 1-10: Jerusalem’s doom is sealed.
Verses 11:14: Message to the house of David.
Principle 35 verse 21:12: --"O house of David! Thus says the Lord ‘Execute judgement in the morning; and deliver him who is plundered out of the hand to the oppressor, lest My fury go forth like fire and burn to that no one can quench it. Because of the evil of your doing’.”
Lesson 35: The earthly king was to be devoted to the commandments of God and was to mete out judgement or justice. The ultimate test of the king was measured in his judicial response to those who were oppressed and plundered.14/4/2024.
