Study From the Book of Jeremiah,15

Today is the fifteenth part of this series, where we study chapter 15. Here there is one biblical principle and its lesson which is useful in biblical counselling.

When Moses and Samuel interceded with God on behalf of the nation, God responded favourably. However, not even these men of God could alter the Lord’s intended purpose for the people of Judah-namely that they should be driven from the land to exile. Death, sword, famine, and captivity would be the outcome of God’s judgement. He would use foreign armies as instruments of judgement as the people threw off the yoke of the covenant and went backward instead of forward in obedience.

However, God restrained from totally demolishing Israel and Judah. For hundreds of years, the Lord had refrained from fully punishing Israel for its idolatry and unfaithfulness. God’s patience was shown in the way He endured for a long time the sin of His people.

Jeremiah was recommissioned with words similar to those of his original calling. The term deliver suggests bringing out from danger, bondage, and oppression.  God promises His presence in times of opposition, persecution, and imprisonment for His sake.    

Structure:

Verses 1-9: the Lord will not relent

Verse 10-18: Jeremiah’s dejection.

Verses 19-21: the Lord reassures Jeremiah.

Principle 26: verse 15:16:    --"Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.”

Lesson 26: God invites us to spend daily times with Him in His Word, not just because it provides us with spiritual bread, but because as a reflection of Him, it gives us joy. Does it give you joy?
