Study From the Book of Jeremiah,14
Today is the fourteenth part of this series, where we study chapter 14. Here there are two biblical principles and lessons which are useful in biblical counselling.
Jeremiah echoes the sentiments of his people in his plea for forgiveness and deliverance for the nation. He pleaded with God on the basis of God’s name and characters, particularly His role as the Hope and Saviour of His people. Instead of having intimate relationship with Judah, God had become a stranger in the land, because the people worshiped other gods.
Unlike the troubled Jeremiah, the people were unrepentant and in need of correction. Jeremiah realized that judgement was inevitable because God offered no hint of deliverance as God could not violate His holy character and accept the people of Judah.
Because divine discipline was inevitable, Jeremiah was instructed not to pray for the good of Jerusalem. Fast and offer burnt offerings were ineffective because of the people’s disobedience, The doom of Judah was sealed.
Jeremiah complained to the Lord about false prophets who were proclaiming a message of peace instead of war and pestilence. God condemnation would fall first on the false prophets because of their prophecies of peace. Next in line for Judgement would be the inhabitants of the city who had been deceived by the false prophets,
Structure:
Verses 1-18: sword ,famine and pestilence.
Verse 19-22: the people plead for mercy.
Principle 24: verse 14:20: --"We acknowledge. O Lord, our wickedness and iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against You.”
Lesson 24: Confession of sin rips away the thick shroud of darkness that sin weaves around our heads, and allows the light of God to penetrate our souls and fill us with life and joy.
Principle 25: verse 14:22: ---“Are there any among the idols of the nations that can cause rain? Or can heavens give showers? Are You not he, O lord our God? Therefore we will wait for You, since You have made all these.”
Lesson 25: We pray to God because He alone is the Creator. He created rain, He made the clouds to drench the land with life-giving water. Since He alone created the world, He alone has the power to answer our prayers. 25/02/2024.
