Study From the Book of Jeremiah,1

Today is the first part of this series, where we start studying chapter 1 and as usual, we pick up two biblical principles and their lessons which are useful in biblical counselling. 

Jeremiah’s call to ministry came in the thirteen year of Josiah, who reigned 31 years. His ministry lasted from the reign of Jehoiakim (608 B.C.)  to the eleventh year of Zedekiah and the fall of Jerusalem (586 B.C.) Jeremiah continued ministering until he was taken unwillingly to Egypt following the assassination of Gedaliah who was appointed Governor over Judah after the Babylonians took over it.

As God’s word became a reality in his life, Jeremiah understood that God knew him and called him to proclaim a critical message at a crucial point in the history of the nation.

Jeremiah would not go and speak alone or of his own accord, but according to the word of the Lord and with His powerful presence.  God reassured Jeremiah of His presence and protection.

One of the main reasons of God’s judgement was Israel’s worship of other gods. God is not one among many; He alone is the God of Israel. The people and other leaders would fight against Jeremiah, but they would not overcome because God Himself protects and fight for the faithful. 

Structure:

Verses 1-3: Jeremiah introduces himself.

Verses 4-19: the prophet is called.

Principle 1, verse 1:5 “---Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you."

Lesson 1: God has a plan for our lives. We are not accidents, nor do we exist by chance. Before we take our first breath, God knows how long we’ll live. Long before we’re even born, He knows our names.

Principle 2, verse 1:17: --“Therefore prepare yourself and arise, and speak to them all that I command you---.”

Lesson 2: As servants of the living God, we are to speak His Word, not merely what we think best.26/11/2023.
