Study From the Book of Isaiah,9
Today is the ninth part of this series where we study chapter eight. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
Isaiah married his second wife, a prophetess (after the death of the first one, the mother of his first son Shear-Jashub)). He got another son and he named him Maher-Shalal -Hash-Baz as God told him to do. God told Isaiah: before his second son talks, the Assyrians , will invade Samaria (the Northern Kingdom, Israel known by its capital of Samaria). This prophecy came to pass in 722 B.C
The rest of this chapter talks about fearing God and obeying His Word, a message to Judah. So, after the summery introduction in verse 11, Isaiah instructed Judah to trust God or perish, a command reinforced by Isaiah and his children who serve as a sign for Judah (southern kingdom). Judah is commanded to fear God and heed His Word and to walk in the light of Isaiah’s prophecy or be thrown into utter darkness.
Structure:
Verses 1-10: Assyria will invade the land,
Verse 11-22: Fear God and heed His Word.
Principle 15, verse 8:13 : “---The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread”
Lesson 15: We do not fear the threads of men if we fear God above all else. When human threats seem more real to us than the promises of God , remember: God’s Word will stand when men turn to dust.
Principle 16: verse 8:20 “—To the Law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them ”
Lesson 16: We live in a time when men demean the Bible and value their own wisdom and insight above all else. But never bet against the Word of God! Regardless of current opinion, it proclaim the truth and eternal life. 13/6/2021
