Study From the Book of Isaiah,8
Today is the eighth part of this series where we study chapter seven. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
Isaiah was sent to King Ahaz with a message, “take heed and be quiet, do not fear or be fainthearted---” ( verse 4). It was because Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel went to Jerusalem to make war against it with an evil plan to set a king (the son of Tabel) instead of Ahaz which is against the will of God that only the descendents of King David ,the Lord Jesus will come from. The message of God is clear, “It shall not stand, Nor shall it come to pass” (verse 7).
The Lord then declares to Ahaz, “Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son and shall call His name Immanuel” (verse 14). This prophecy was completely fulfilled in the coming of God’s only Son to the earth. He is the only child who can truly be called Wonderful, Counsellor, and Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
Structure:
Verses 1-9: Isaiah sent to King Ahaz
Verses 10-25: The Immanuel Prophecy.
Principle 13, verse 7:9 : “---If you will not believe , surely you shall not be established.”
Lesson 13: We will never go wrong by putting our trust in God and living by His promises, but we will have no end of trouble if we refuse to believe that He will do exactly as He has said.
Principle 14,verse 7:14: “—Behold , the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”
Lesson 14: “Immanuel” means “God with us” and function more as a title than a proper name. The angel told Mary to call her Son “Jesus,” which means “God saves.” So, Jesus is the God among us who saves (Matt. 1:21,23).6/6/2021
