Study From the Book of Isaiah,6
Today is the sixth part of this series where we study chapter five. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be applied in biblical counselling.
Isaiah starts this chapter by singing the Song of the Vineyard. He starts by introduction, then accusation and sentence with interpretation in verse 7: " The vineyard is the house of Israel, the pleasant plant is the men of Judah. The Lord looked for justice but behold oppression. For righteousness but behold a cry for help."
Isaiah then prophecies of the impending judgement. The lord judges Israel for their sins: cynical unbelief and injustice by allowing Israel to go for captivity and humiliation. Isaiah then describes the invading army (Assyrians) in verses 26-30.
Structure:
Verse 1-7: God’s disappointing vineyard
Verses 8-30: impeding judgement.
Principle 9 verse 5: 12“ – The harp and the strings, the tambourine and flute and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the work of the Lord , nor consider the operation of His hands.”
Lesson 9: God gives us music and food and celebrations to enjoy, but never to enjoy apart from Him or instead of Him or in neglect of Him. He is to be at the centre of all we do, all the time.
Principle 10 verse 5:20 ”--- Woe to those who call evil good and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”
Lesson 10: When God in His Word calls something evil, it is evil. When He labels a thing bitter, no multitude of religious authorities can make it sweet through their solemn declarations. God is our absolute authority.23/05/2021
