Study From the Book of Isaiah,59
Today is the fifty-ninth part of this series where we study chapter 64. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In this chapter prophet Isaiah continues in his prayer of penitence of the previous chapter of 63. He appeals for the Lord to appear and strike terror in the enemy. The image of fire Often symbolizes God’s presence especially in judgement.
Isaiah then talks about that people are unfit for God’s presence whatever they do as “all our righteousness is like filthy rags.” We need God’s grace. God is never rally in hiding, but He does obscure His presence because of human sin.
In contrast to the preceding section, the confession of sin and with God’s forgiveness, God is our Father and we are clay in our Potter’s hands to mould us and change us for His glory.
Structure:
Verses 1-12: continuation of the previous chapter: a prayer of penitence.
Principle 113, verse 64:4 “—For since the beginning of the world, men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, nor has the eye seen any God besides You, who acts for the one who waits for Him.”
Lesson 113: We cannot imagine how God will move on our behalf-He does exceedingly abundantly -but we confidently expect that He will act when we wait for Him in faith.
Principle 114: verse 64:8,” But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are our Potter; and all we are the work of Your hand.”
Lesson 114: As our Father; God acts for our benefit in ways that childlike minds cannot always understand. As our potter, He moulds us and shapes us in ways that sometimes hurt. But always He deals with us in love.3/7/2022.
