Study From the Book of Isaiah,56

Study From the Book of Isaiah,56.

Today is the fifty-sixth part of this series where we study chapter 61.  And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me." The Me featured so prominently here is the same Servant in Isiah 42:1. Several reasons point to this identification:

  1. The Servant refers to God as His Master, the Lord.
  2. He has received the Lord’s Spirit
  3. He brings a word of healing and liberation
  4. He proclaims the year of the Lord.
  5. He is associated with an everlasting covenant
  6. Jesus Christ inaugurated His ministry by identifying Himself as this Servant in Luke 4:16-21.

Structure:

Verses 1-11: the Good news of salvation.

Principle 107, verse 61:1 “—The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor.....”

Lesson 107: Shortly after Jesus began His public ministry, He returned to His boyhood synagogue in Nazareth and delivered a short sermon based on this passage (Luke 4:16-21). He told the associated crowd that He fulfilled this Scripture.

Principle 108: verse 61:7, “Instead of your shame you shall have double honour, and instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion. Therefore, joy shall be theirs.”

Lesson 108:  God is the God of compensation and when He compensates, he returns twice of what been lost. For example, instead of shame, we shall have double honour.12/06/2022.
