Study From the Book of Isaiah,53

Study From the Book of Isaiah,53

Today is the fifty-third part of this series where we study chapter 58.  And as usual we pick up  a biblical principles and a lesson that can be useful in biblical counselling.

In this chapter, Isaiah talks about fasting that pleases God. Formally the nation of Israel fasted in times of national calamity. Later, fasting became part of the liturgical calendar. This sermon may have been delivered on the Day of Atonement when the people of Israel afflicted their souls. However instead of ceasing their normal pursuits  and sitting the day aside to fast and pray , they strike with the fist the labourer who does not work(verse 4).

Isaiah then talks about the good fasting which is to clothe the naked, feed the poor, and keep the Sabbath, then the blessing of the Lord would pour on them and feed them with the heritage of Jacob their father.

Structure:

Verses 1-14: fasting that pleases God.

Principle 103, verse 58:6: “—Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke.”

Lesson 103: God expects that the righteousness He puts in our hearts through faith in Christ will work its way out into acts of justice and mercy for the oppressed and disadvantaged around us. Because we have received, we give (8/5/2022).
