Study From the Book of Isaiah,47
Today is the forty-seventh part of this series where we study chapter 52. As usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In this chapter, prophet Isaiah talks about the redemption of Jerusalem from the exile in Babylon. He then extends his prophesy to the second coming of the Lord Jesus at the end of age when the Lord Jesus reigns for 1000 years.
In between he talks about the suffering Servant to redeem His people from sin in His first coming to earth. The people of Jerusalem would not recognise Him in His first coming but they will repent their sins and welcome Him in His second coming. In that day Jerusalem will awake and put on her beautiful garments and “for uncircumcised and unclean shall no longer come to you” (Verse 1).
Structure:
Verses 1-12: God redeems Jerusalem.
Verses 13-15: the sin-bearing Servant.
Principle 89, verse 52:3 “—For thus says the Lord: ‘You have sold yourselves for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money’.”
Lesson 89: Why do we sin? We sin because we think that it gives us a better deal than whatever God is offering. But we always we get burned. We sell ourselves for nothing- and then God buys us back with Himself.
Principle 90, verse 52:14”---His visage was marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men.”
Lesson 90: the Lord Jesus went for agony for our sakes. He suffered not through any personal fault but because of our sins. He willingly died for us, that we might live. “If you love Me.” He says, “keep my commands “John 14:15. 27/03/2022
