Study From the Book of Isaiah,18
Today is the eighteenth part of this series where we study chapter twenty. And as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
The topic of this chapter is proclamation against Egypt and Ethiopia. Judah turned to Egypt and Ethiopia for help to fight against Assyria away from the help of God. God commanded Isaiah of walking naked and barefoot to get the attention of the Jewish that what they were doing was wrong and they must trust God for deliverance. Later on, Esarhaddon, the king of Assyria conquered Egypt (the helper) in 671 B.C.
Structure:
Verses 1-6: proclamation against Egypt and Ethiopia.
Principle 33 verse 20:2 “—the Lord spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying ‘Go and remove the sackcloth from your body, and take your sandals off your feet.’ And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.
Lesson 33: God will take extraordinary measures to get our attention when we have walked away from Him and stand in danger of severe discipline. Is He trying to do the same now to us ?
Principle 34: verse 20 :6 : “—And the inhabitant of this territory will say in that day, ‘Surely such is our expectation, wherever we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and how shall we escape ?’”
Lesson 34: because the people of Judah did not learn the lesson of Isaiah. They saw by themselves that Egypt itself was conquered by Assyrians and when they realised that it was too late. The Northern Kingdom of Israel was defeated by the Assyrians and the Southern one was about to fall but that was prevented by God due to the cry out of Isaiah and Hezekiah to the Lord. 15/8/2021
