Today is the seventeenth part of this series where we study chapter nineteen. For chapter eighteen there are no biblical principles and lessons we can learn from, as this chapter talks about proclamation against Ethiopia.  So today we study chapter nineteen and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

This chapter is titled proclamation against Egypt. Scholars differ in their opinions, as some claim that this chapter had already happened in the past. While others claim that it will happen in the future. I am with the second claim.

Chapter 19 has two parts. The first part describes the collapse of Egypt before the Lord. If we think about the future events, this will happen at the time of tribulation and the great tribulation, the 7 years that will occur after the rupture of the church. While the second part describes the salvation of Egypt in the Lord that will happen at the time of millennium when the Lord reigns for 1000 years.    

Structure:

Verses 1-17: proclamation against Egypt

Verses 18-25: Egypt, Assyria and Israel blessed.

Principle 31, verse 19:20“—they will cry to the Lord because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Saviour and Mighty One, and He will deliver them.”

Lesson 31:  We expect the Bible to tell us of a Saviour coming to deliver Israel-but this text speaks of a Saviour coming to rescue Egypt, Israel’s long-time enemy! Our God is a global God, and He wants to bless all peoples.

Principle 32:  verse 20 :25: “— the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, ‘blessed is Egypt My people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel My inheritance.’”  

Lesson 32: In Exodus, God severely judged Egypt; He destroyed Assyria after the deportation of the northern kingdom; and many times, He judged rebellious Israel. Yet God loves to show mercy, not exercise judgement!   8/8/2021
