Today is the sixteenth part of this series where we study chapter seventeen. For chapters fifteen and sixteen, there are no biblical principles and lessons that we can learn from as these chapters talk about the proclamation (15) then destruction (16) of Moab. So today we study chapter seventeen and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

In chapter seventeen, Isaiah talks about the proclamation against Syria and Israel. After an editorial subscription, Isaiah talks about the ruin of Damascus then the ruin of Israel which is only left with a remnant. Then in the future when the Lord reigns in the millennium, people will trust Israel’s God. Isaiah then explains that the accusation against Damascus is because it replaces God with pagan deities. Isaiah then ends this chapter by declaring that  the doom upon the nations   who plunder us.  

Structure:

Verses 1-14: proclamation against Syria and Israel.

Principle 29, verse 17:7“—In that day a man will look to his Maker, and his eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel”

Lesson 29:  Isaiah pictures the future time at the millennium when the Lord reigns. But we can look to our Maker and have respect to the Holy One of Israel right now. At this very moment we can enjoy the blessings of intimate connection to our God.

Principle 30:  verse 17:14: “—Then behold, at eventide, trouble! And before the morning, he is no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us and the lot of those who rob us.”   

Lesson 30: This was fulfilled during the time of Isaiah when Sennacherib’s army would be destroyed between eventide and morning as God sent an angel and killed 185,000 solders of the enemy between eventide and morning  as Isaiah and King Hezekiah cried to the Lord  for deliverance (2 Kings 19:35) . This is also portion of those who plunder us and the lot who rob us now. 1/8/2021
