                             Study From the Book of Hosea,2

From part one; we studied that Hosea prophesied in the Northern Kingdom about the judgement of that nation, unless they repented.  To illustrate the spiritual adulteries of that nation, God ordered him to love and get married with a prostitute. The whole book illustrates, although God disciplined the disobedient nation, He still the love her.

The same principle is applied on us today, God in His love, disciplines us if we continue on sin refusing to repent.

Biblical principle 1(1:6, 7- ) “ –I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, but I will utterly take them away. Yet I will have mercy on the house of Judah--.”  

Lesson 1: Both nations had sinned, but the sin of Israel (the northern nation) was greater than that of Judah (the southern nation). However, mercy is not earned or deserved, any more than grace is earned or deserved. A compassionate God may show mercy is no sinner’s right. “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy” (Rom.9:15).

Biblical principle 2 (1:10) “—And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there it shall be said to them, ‘You are sons of the living God.’”

Lesson 2: Even in judgement, God shows mercy. Hosea showed the judgement of God, never the less, God also shows the promises of restoration and mercy. We owe everything to God’s grace.

Biblical principle 3 (2:8): “For she did not know that I gave her grain, new win, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold- which they prepared for Baal.”

Lesson 3: Every good thing we have and enjoy is nothing but a gift from the hand of God according to James 1:17. We must beware of taking the good gifts of God and using them for evil purposes ( James 3:9,10) .
