Study From the Book of Hebrews,9

Study From the Epistle to Hebrews, 9

Today is the ninth   part of this series, where we study chapter 8 and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

In chapter 8, the writer (Apostle Paul, most likely) continues to talk about the High Priest, our Lord Jesus. He is now seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. He gave Himself once on the Cross for all as the scarify to redeem us from wages of sin which is death. Now He intercedes for us . When He was on earth He was not the High priest as the priesthood of Moses continued until the destruction of the Temple in A.D 70.

Remind ourselves that the writer talks to the  converted Jews. They should be part of the Church, the pride of Jesus. So the writter  shifts to talk about the other remaining Jews who still believed they were under the old convenient. However this old covenant is now obsolete . At the time of writing this letter, the Temple was still there before been destroyed by Titus in A.D 70 and the Jews been offering sacrifies according to the Law of Moses.

The writer then talks about a new covenant. This covenant is mistakenly believed to be for us. In fact the writer refers to a passage from Jeremiah 31-34. As the readers might know that there is no mention of the Church in the OT. So the writer talks about a new covenant which was promised by God to His prophets including Jeremiah. So this convenient will happen for the remnants of Jews after the great   tribulation which will occur after the rupture of the Church.

Structure:

Verse 1:6: The New Priestly Service

Verse 7:13:  New Covenant.

Principle 15 verse 8:1 : “- We have a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens—“

Lesson 15: That means the Lord Jesus is to occupy the most influential seat to intercede for us with His father as our Friend, Lord, Savoir, Brother and fellow heir. Halleluiah.

Principle 16: verse 8:6:  “- But now He has obtained excellent ministry, in as much as He is also a Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promise.”

Lesson 16: As mentioned this new covenant will happen in the future for the remnants who believe later after the great tribulation. For us we can take this as the redeemed children through the ministry of Christ ‘s living Spirit.                24/5/2020
