Study From the Epistle to Hebrews, 7
Today is the seventh part of this series where we study chapter 6 and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In chapter 6, the writer (apostle Paul, most likely) talks to the Jewish converts about the danger of setting back to the Law of Moses rituals especially by offering scarifies, would they want Jesus to be crucified again? Especially they already accepted His redemption on the Cross and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit.
After that the writer praises them for the good work they did as in verse 10 says, “ For God is not unjust to forget your work and labour of love which you have shown toward His name in that you have ministered to the saints and do minister.”
He then talks about the promise of God to Abraham, when God swore by Himself that He will bless him and His descendants through the Lord Jesus. He is now in heaven as the High Priest ever to the order of Melchizedek.
Structure:
Verse 1:8: the danger of not progressing
Verse 9:12: A better estimate
Verse 13:20: God’s infallible purpose in Christ.
Principle 11: verse 6:12- “ do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”
Lesson 11: Everyone wants to enjoy the blessings of God’s promises, but not everyone will. Lazy believers who exercise neither faith nor patience should expect to receive few to none of the benefits of God’s promises.
Principle 12: verse 6:19: “ --this hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast and which enters the presence.”
Lesson 12: Our hope in Christ gives us a firm and rock-solid confidence that nothing life throws at us can ultimately move us. This hope reaches to the very throne of God Himself to bring us comfort and assurance. 10/5/2020
