Study From teh Book of Hebrews,6

Study From the Epistle to Hebrews, 6

Today is the sixth part of this series where we study chapter 5 and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

In chapter 5, the writer talks about the qualifications of the high priest. That he should be appointed by God to give scarifies and intercede for his  people. In the OT, Arran and his descendants used to do this job. However the earthy one needed also to give scarifies for himself because he was a human liable to sin as others.

The things are different for Christ. He was also appointed by God. However, because he was without sins, he offered Himself as a sacrifice on the Cross once for us for all  who believe in Him. He is the high priest for ever before God also He intercedes for us in our weakness.

The writer then talks to the converted Jews. He criticised them that they should be mature because they had the Law of Moses. Indeed they still did not understand as if they were babies need milk not solid food as mature Christians get.

Structure:

Verse 1:4: qualifications of the high priest.

Verse 5:11: Christ is our High Priest forever.

Verse 12:14: spiritual immaturity

Principle 9, verse 5:7: “ –when He (Christ) had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death., and was heard---“

Lesson 9: this verse is badly interpreted  by non Christians as they claim that Christ did not die on the Cross, but God replaced him with another man. Indeed it is the opposite. Jesus died on the Cross, but God spared him from being dead for good as He raised Him from the dead on the third day after He successfully finished His job.

Principle 10: verse 5:9:  “-and having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him—“

Lesson 10: does our obedience gain us our salvation? The answer is no. It is by believing that Christ died for us on the Cross to redeem us from the wages of sin which is death.  However those who do not obey His commands should re-examine themselves. 3/5/2020
