Today is the fifth part of this series where we study chapter 4 and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.

In this chapter, the writer (most likely the apostle Paul) while he wrote to the Jewish converts reminds them that the majority of the Jews who did not accept the Lord Jesus would not enter the rest at heaven because of disbelieve. However the promise of God is still at work, so at the end of age after the great tribulation (after the rupture of the church), the remnants will believe.

However for us, we are enjoying God’s rest as we accepted the Lord Jesus as our saviour.   Our Lord is the High priest sitting at the right hand of God, intercedes for us and sympathises with our weakness. 

Structure:

Verse 1:10: the promise of rest

Verse 11:13: the Word discovers our conditions

Verse14::16:our compassionate High Priest.

Principle 7: verse 4:12- “-For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword...and is a discerner of thoughts and intends of the heart.”

Lesson 7: The Scripture is not dead but living. It lives because God brought it into existence and because the Spirit of God brings its message to life in our hearts. It has God’s power to provoke change in our lives.

Principle 8: verse 4:16:  “-Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Lesson 8: God wants us to come boldly into His presence not timidly or anxiously or fear of how He responds. He wants to help us and He has all grace we need to confront any challenges we might face. 26/4/2020
