Study From the Epistle to Hebrews, 13
Today is the 13th part of this series where we study chapter 12 and as usual we pick up a couple of biblical principles and lessons that can be useful in biblical counselling.
In chapter 12, the writer (most likely the apostle Paul) after he says that to look to the Lord Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, he goes on to describe the discipline of God as a Father who loves His children.
He then goes on making a comparison between the connection with God at the mount Sinai and the current relationship with God as a Father in the New Testament. However He still the same yesterday, today and forever, our God is a consuming fire.
Structure:
Verse 1:2: the race of faith
Verse 3:11: the discipline of God
Verse 12:17: renew your spiritual vitality
Verse 18:24: the glorious company
Verse 25:29: renew your spiritual vitality
Principle, 23, verse 12:11: “- Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
Lesson 23: No one likes to be disciplined. It never puts a smile on our face or a spring in our steps- at least initially. But if we cooperate with God when He corrects us, blessing always results.
Principle 24:, verse 12:28: “—Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”
Lesson 24: Divine grace never encourages us to live in ungodly ways, but instead motivates us to fear and obey God in a healthy and reverent way. Grace enables us to serve not to sin.
